Work Hard, Play Hard

Jinja is a very fun and safe place to stay for a few months. There are lots of relaxing places in town where you can hang out with a book, go swimming or meet up with friends. Jinja is also a popular tourist destination with people coming for safaris, boat trips on the river, adventure activities like horseback riding, the famous Nile white-water rafting and more! So there's a lot to do in your free time here. Below are some ideas of weekend trips you can take.

King Fisher Island: King Fisher is only about a ten minute boda-boda ride from Jinja town. You can spend the weekend relaxing by the pool, rafting, horse riding, quadbiking, and taking boat rides. You can also take a boat trip to experience the 'Source of the Nile', which is a beautiful and unforgettable experience!

Hiking Sipi Falls: Sipi Falls is located in Kapchora district, about 3 hours by bus from Jinja. When you arrive, there are bathrooms and a shop to buy water and other items for your hike. Hikes run with a guide, so you don't need to worry about finding the way. The hike isn't challenging (but we recommend you wear proper hiking boots) and you will be surrounded by lush greenery and beautiful waterfalls!

The hike includes a delicious lunch and a visit to a local home where you will have the chance to make your own Ugandan coffee from scratch - you'll get to peel the beans, roast them, grind them and then make coffee.
